In a culture of having things "your way, right away" (as Burger King says), we are confronted by the message of Jesus that we can only have a relationship with God in his way, according to his timing. As we study this passage, we will be challenged to evaluate how we relate to God and whether we have a true relationship with him at all.

In her chart-topping hit, "ET," Katy Perry sings about longing for the "transcendental, supernatural" love of an alien being. Believe it or not, she's simply expressing a longing that lies deep within all human beings.

We will be looking at the idol of personal privacy. Why are we so wary of letting people into certain areas of our lives? Is that Biblically defensible?

Rev Stephen Terpstra > Work and wealth promise us all sorts of benefits, even happiness and safety and acceptance, if we will only give our lives to them. But, of course, they cannot satisfy. However, following Jesus means selling all we have so that we can have a true and permanent and satisfying treasure in Him, as our passage today shows.

We are capable people. Many of us are "can do it" kinds of people. Is it possibly that our own ability has become an idol?
