Hebrews 12:18-29 lay out for us the stark contrast between meeting God through Jesus and meeting him in any other way. The question is not, "will we meet God" at the end of time; rather, the question is, "How will we meet God?"

To be a Christian necessarily means to be forgiven our sins. Why then must we continue to confess our sin to God? After all, aren't we forgiven "once for all?" The answer can be found in one of the great confessions of sin in all of world literature: Psalm 51.

Question 2 of the Heidelberg Catechism lays out three elements of the gospel message that we must understand to live and die in the joy of the comfort of belonging to Jesus. As we will see tomorrow evening and next week, to exclude any of those three elements is to end up with an incomplete -- and distorted -- gospel.
