We continue our study of HC Q & A #1, focussing on the phrase, "He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven." To some, those words are a tremendous comfort; to others, they are a source of serious difficulty. Matthew 10:29-31 is the source text for this statement. We'll have a look at it.

To be a Christian necessarily means to be forgiven our sins. Why then must we continue to confess our sin to God? After all, aren't we forgiven "once for all?" The answer can be found in one of the great confessions of sin in all of world literature: Psalm 51.

Question 2 of the Heidelberg Catechism lays out three elements of the gospel message that we must understand to live and die in the joy of the comfort of belonging to Jesus. As we will see tomorrow evening and next week, to exclude any of those three elements is to end up with an incomplete -- and distorted -- gospel.

We continue our study of the dynamics of confession and forgiveness. Though relationship breakdown is inevitable, that doesn't mean we should be satisfied with broken relationships.
